Roll me in fairy dust...

So, we won't mention the stash diet. Naughty Clearly Besotted had their new release on 1st August and a couple (okay four) of the fab new sets fell into my basket. I was suprised, but happy to find that they arrived the very next day. After stroking them for a couple of hours, I just had to ink up one of the cute platypus (platypuses?).
As I wasn't in the mood for colouring I decided to paper piece the platypus. To make the card base I used the left over bit of blue card and then trimmed down a 5x7 card blank to fit it. I then created a smaller white panel to sit on top of the blue. Before gluing it in place I stamped the sentiment from a Woodware set and die cut the MFT Peekaboo square.
Using the square from the die cut I inked some clouds using the MFT cloud stencil and some versamark chalk ink. I normally use a mini blending tool to do this, but in an uncharacteristic moment of tidiness had thrown them all into the washing machine on a cold wash. This however gave me the chance to try out my Rare Earth ink dusters, that had been sat in the packet since Crafting Live at Bolton. If you've not seen these before they are similar to the brushes that Clarity sell, but in miniature. The bristles are super soft and so I spent a while stroking them to start with! I found that they allowed me to apply a much lighter layer of ink and build it up as opposed to my tendency to be heavy handed with the mini blender tool. Their small size makes them easy to hold and allows you to be more in control of where you are putting the ink. In my opinion, definitely a good buy.
To finish the card I glued the square back into place and then added the platypus on foam tape. I added stickles to the tail, belt and unicorn horn and glossy accents to his (or her) bill.
I'm taking this card over to the Snippets Playground as I raided the bit box to paper piece the platypus. Hope the roof on the treehouse is watertight!

  1. Hee Hee! Fab stamp & sentiment. Should have got your brushes out sooner - you've done a fab job with them x

  2. Gorgeous card - what a fantastic stamp and sentiment!

  3. IF it wouldn't get in my eyes, I'd roll in the glitter too. Cute card. And you got the plural of platypus correct. There's nothing like having new "schtuff" in the mail box. Ohhhhh.....a lovely feeling. [Bunny]

  4. Hi Cara,
what a very super snippets make, and your design is very lovely.
Yes ink duters work really well.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  10. Hi Cara, a very cute card with a super cute platypus. Down under we also use Platypi as a plural of platypus. Have a wonderful weekend... Megan

  11. Adorable card, Cara, really made me smile.

I was going to suggest (jokingly) that the plural of Platypus might be Platypi, but I've just Megan's comment! LOL! xx

  12. Oooh Cara - what a brilliant card! Love the paper piecing and I spotted that adorable Clearly Besotted Platypus set just the other day and it's on my wish list - more so now I've seen you using it! They've got some fab designs just released and certainly the break hasn't stopped their creativity at all! I think they've decided not to have matching dies any longer? But I can live with that as generally they're a lot more expensive than the stamps and if they're available I sort of feel the 'need' for them when fussy cutting would do the trick really!

The background is gorgeous and I so relate to what you say about the smaller brushes - off to hunt for those next! Plus, love the square stitched die you used - there's one here in the toy box along with some shaker card plastic panels to match. I keep forgetting to hunt out my own set of plastic panels which haven't been used yet. I know they're in a safe place though!

Phew, this comment is like War and Peace in length!

  13. Great job with the paper piecing and such a fun card. Love the platypus stamp, so made me smile x

  14. Love your card, the sentiment made me smile. I am now going to find those brushes, they sound like an excellent way to apply ink when you are heavy handed like me. Cx
